Alright, I've had 5 generations of the JJ x 32 MTB's. I've been able to achieve some epic climbs and descents on my past boots (Denali, Rainier, etc) In the past I needed to break in the boots on several tours before they started to fit well, these guys are dialed out of the box. They feel lighter than past gen boots, I believe it's because of the upgraded Vibram outsoles. This might be a bit of a down grade because the old Vibram outsoles are bomber after years of abuse.
With the new boots I was able to climb some W2 ice on Mt. Hoods pearly gates, with crampons, they front point perfectly and my BD strap on crampons fit snuggly!(get a half size larger if you expect to front point and do longer tours) I'm a big fan of the updated walk mode collar. On previous models I had issues getting snow in my boot, with the added webbing/boa this problem has seemed to be address. I'm still deciding how much I like the new gaiters, adding zippers when conditions can potentially reach below zero could become an issue, but we'll see, so far so good!
This boot has a tiny bit more play than previous models, which is nice for your descents and resort riding. All things considered, Thirty Two has once again made the best touring, climbing and shredding boots in the game. Thanks for the innovations!
