32 Down Under
We can't let our 32 testers have the summer off... we work 'em year round. And so, the poor bastards get sent to ride the upside down snow in Australia. And we make 'em write about it just for you. Man, sucks to be Tim...
Hey everybody in internet land! How’s the heat in the states? If you’re like me, almost everyone reading this is going crazy right about now thinking how much they miss the snow. Well for the first time since I started snowboarding I busted out the credit card and 1500 bucks later I was on my way to Australia for 7 weeks of snowboarding. Over the next month I’ll be sending in stories and pics from down under. I’m 3 weeks into the journey and shit is bananas...
Nah I’m not talking about the lib techs, in fact step child has this place on lock down, every time I fall I can look forward to one of the park boys saying, "it's because you're not on a stepchild." Of course 32’s presence is also well known.
I’m in the tiny town of Jindabyne and working park crew at a mountain called Perisher Blue. The snowboarding has well exceeded my expectations, as long as you like park riding and little rock stalls everywhere you look. Everyone gave me shit for not going to New Zealand, but free rent and a job weren’t waiting for me there. In the last 3 weeks I’ve been snowboarding all but one day. The people here are genuinely nice and the family I'm living with has taken me in as one of their own. Weather - It’s either super sunny and warm, or cloudy flat light snowy super ultra-sonic windy shit. Even the bad days are fun if you’re with the right crew, and it’s on those days that I think about my friends in salt lake who are trying to get snow from the ice rink (you’ve all tried it don’t hate) so I make the best of it.
I’m not much of a drinker but on the few nights I’ve been out, wow, they like to party. Often going into the daylight of the next day. Expect breathalyser stops on the mountain road every Thursday Saturday and Sunday mornings. Showing off pics of the girls you took home the previous night is all the rage, enough to keep me away, at least for now. I’ll get back to you on that next week.
So here’s a few pics. Session on the little park jump line, kangaroo in the backyard, rock stall and trying to learn handplants and view from the top. Sorry no switch back 9’s. I’m no pro, I just love snowboarding and ride almost every day during our winter. I am lucky enough to test gear for 32. I’m rocking the 08/09 Team Two. So comfy I wear them around the house after riding, great for chopping wood and chasing kangaroos when you’re not snowboarding.
Thanks for reading -Tim
