West Coast Invitational Recap!

The WCI (West Coast Invitational) at Mammoth Mountain was held this past weekend, May 4-6. Don’t worry because theThirtyTwo crew represented Cinco De Mayo to the fullest. The competitions this year consisted of a Rail Jam at the Village, a Pipe Jam, a Freestyle Snowmobile kicker demo, and some great rappers were laying out the jams. But best of all, were the two days of powder! The Pipe Jam on Friday, was delayed until Sunday, due to snow accumulations, allowing for an amazing powder day.

Saturday was a little breezy, but so much fun. There was still plenty of powder left for the ThirtyTwo crew. We even dropped some cliffs off of Facelift.

The party started that Saturday night at our condo in the Village. Which coincidentally, overlooked the Rail Jam. We had a fourth floor suite that came with a balcony – which was very handy in viewing the Rail Jam and to get our party on. Before the event started we cooked up a nice mexi-meal for our swanky party guests. The guys from Future, Snowboard Mag and Snowboarder all rolled through. Even the CFO of Mammoth was partying with us.

As you would expect the rail kids were going for it at the Rail Jam, Jonas Micholt ended up winning 10k for an hours worth of hucking. A green shirted shredder was also killing the rail but we couldn’t hear the mic magic of Todd Richards due to the loud ass music, so we never did figure out who the green shirted mystery rider was. So if you know his name, be sure to give him some love for us. After the event we took a ride on the gondola to Canyon Lodge, Guru was hitting the mic and we didn’t want to miss it. Unfortunately for me, I think I drank way too much, way too early, and ended up going back to the condo to crash.
Oh well, maybe next year.

Sunday came around much to fast, but being the dedicated shredders we are, we got on the mountain super early - I think around noon! We rode all day, and had planned on catching the Pipe Contest but instead we got (master kicker builder) Mike Gershner, to plow some snow to the Twilight Zone the night before, so of course the we rode instead of watched the Contest. Thanks Mike, for all the fun.

The six hour drive home capped off one of the funniest weekends I’ve ever had in Mammoth! I can't wait to see what they throw at us next year.
