The Young and the Restless Tour Prequel Photos
Now it's time for us to get all Star Wars on your ass by writing the beginning of the story and putting it after the end.
The Young and the Restless Tour got started on Monday, October 9. Freddy Austbo and I jumped in the ThirtyTwo team van at our headquarters down in BroCal and headed out on the long drive up toward Redding in NorCal. We met up there with none other than Eric Jackson, also known as E-Jack. Seems he had spent the week prior enjoying his yearly fishing trip in the Trinity Lake area. We picked Eric up just outside of Redding and checked in to a hotel.

Fredrik Austbo sports the ThirtyTwo bling! What now, bee-otch?

Clockwise from top left: Love at first sight–this was one of Freddy’s favorite boards at Mervin Manufacturing. Freddy and E-Jack enjoy life in the pimped-out ThirtyTwo van. Check out my co-pilot after a few hours on the road… jet lag kickin' in. E-Jack and a fan.
The next morning, we charged toward the Oregon border. We were feeling a little antsy, so we stopped off at the Ashland skatepark to stretch out our legs and get our grind on. It was pretty cool to have the whole skatepark to ourselves. Shortly after our skate mission, we ventured into Beaverton, where we stopped off and had a little barbeque feast with Chris Owen and his wife, Amber.

Freddy kills it at the Ashland skatepark.

E-Jack joins in on the fun. Front melon on the hip.
On Wednesday morning, we drove through Oregon into Washington, where we stopped off to visit out friends at Mervin Manufacturing. It was good to see Jeannine James and Trevor Phillips. They gave us the grand tour of Mervin, which was a nice treat for Freddy and I, since we had never been there before.

E-Jack and Freddy were stoked to get the grand tour of Mervin’s warehouse.

Here are some of the OG board graphics and paintings.

The great wall of Mervin’s history. Some classic boards were posted on this wall.
It was really cool to see all their tooling, and how they make all their boards. I guess we can call ourselves lucky, since not too many people get a chance to see that side of snowboarding culture. Anyway, after our little tour, we decided to go skate the Ballard Bowl.

Working it. Just some interested fans.

The Premiere Club in Seattle shows Standard Films Draw the Line.
We hooked up with the Mervin crew that night for their annual Standard Films premiere at, appropriately, the Premiere Club in Seattle. It was an all-ages show, which made it easy for Freddy and Eric to attend. After those two got busy in the van with some fans after the show, we charged up to Vancouver and, luckily, made it through the border without any hassles.
