Resort Update: June Mountain Grenade Games!

On April 20, 2006, the ThirtyTwo crew mobbed up to June Mountain, located about a half hour away from Mammoth Mountain, for the Grenade 420 Games. There was tons of people, tons of snow, tons of beer and tons of weed. The cops even had roadblocks set-up on the way into June with drug sniffing dogs, busting people left and right. The 420 Games went as planned anyway. Hell, yeah!
All you had to do was buy a $10 lift ticket and you could ride the whole dang mountain. The pipe was where the main event went down, but you could ride everything--including a rail park, some rather large kickers, a halfpipe and a huge boarder cross run--from top to bottom with access by a high-speed quad.

Did I also tell you they had a stage set up at the bottom of the pipe? Four bands played, but I couldn't tell you their names. I don't even know what you'd call the music? Punk, metal, hardcore, screaming? The last band was by far the best! Leave a post if you know their name.
After the bands were done, the bull ride started. Not a normal bull ride, but a super chunked-up run. A GNU snowboard with no binding and a piece of rope tied to the front as a strap to hold onto was the bull. Each entrant had to drop in, ride the chunks as far as they could, and once they hit the snow with their body, they were immediately pelted with snowballs as they ran back up to give the board to the next victim. Funny as hell! Also, if you made it to the bottom, you got 1000 bucks! I only saw a kid on a snow skate make it to the bottom. Kind of impressive?

So, you thought that was it? Hell, no! Next came the Chinese eye downhill, which started from the bull ride and proceeded all the way down to the parking lot. About 60 kids went for another 1000 bucks! I don't know who won, but I guess he made it down to the bottom, rode his snowboard through the dirt, unstrapped while still sliding, then ran and smashed into the GNU RV. What a great end to a great day!
Big props to the crew at June Mountain and Grenade for putting on one of the best shredtastic days in a good long while!--Brian Cook
