Wow! What a weekend! Janna Meyen and Leanne Pelosi took home some cash and a car, via 1st at the Rail Jam, and 1st and 2nd in Slopestyle at the U.S. Open. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the Scandinavians battled it out for 1st place in The Battle…

The Battle, Falun Sweden--March 19, 2005

The Finnish team dominated the Battle! Teams of three riders, including a Team Captain, from 12 nations battled it out to claim bragging rights in front of 16,000 spectators. With a gigantic course, this event took the riders by surprise. The "Oooh’s" and "Ahhh’s" that echoed throughout the stadium didn’t really justify how enormous the course was, not to mention the riding level.

Although contestants were being taken out left and right with either sprained ankles or broken wrists, the riding couldn’t be stopped. It was quite impressive to see 12 nations from all over the globe travel so far to a small town in Sweden to throw down and take snowboarding to another level.

The weather couldn’t have been better for the level of riding that was going down on Saturday, March 19, 2005. (With a nice -5 Celsius, to boot.) Finnish Team Captain Markku Koski dominated as they rode with style and confidence. The course was built in a ski jump stadium, utilizing the landing of the jump as the approach to the enormous battlefield.

The course consisted of a monster-sized table top measuring over 100 feet from take-off to landing, with a nice-sized hip (backside for goofy footers). Opposite of the hip, the table top was also utilized as a quarterpipe, perfectly shaped in the middle of the table top, forcing the riders to keep up their speed in order to clear the entire jump without falling directly into a wall. Immediately after the table top, a variety of jib lines were offered.

After a long day of flat landings and compressed spins, the Finnish team dominated the course, taking home the trophy, an official key to the city of Falun, some custom surfboards and bragging rights as the best nation. Hampus Mossesson represented all day long, winning the Rider of the Battle for the second year in a row, not to mention 15.000 Swedish kroner and a huge box of Snickers! Congratulations goes out to all of these guys for representing and ruling!
